\r\nThe disciples were on the way, going up to Jerusalem,\r\nand Jesus went ahead of them.\r\nThey were amazed, and those who followed were afraid.\r\nTaking the Twelve aside again, he began to tell them\r\nwhat was going to happen to him.\r\n\"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man\r\nwill be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, \r\nand they will condemn him to death\r\nand hand him over to the Gentiles who will mock him,\r\nspit upon him, scourge him, and put him to death,\r\nbut after three days he will rise.\"\r\n\r\nThen James and John, the sons of Zebedee,\r\ncame to Jesus and said to him,\r\n\"Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.\"\r\nHe replied, \"What do you wish me to do for you?\"\r\nThey answered him,\r\n\"Grant that in your glory\r\nwe may sit one at your right and the other at your left.\"\r\nJesus said to them, \"You do not know what you are asking.\r\nCan you drink the chalice that I drink\r\nor be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?\"\r\nThey said to him, \"We can.\"\r\nJesus said to them, \"The chalice that I drink, you will drink,\r\nand with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized;\r\nbut to sit at my right or at my left is not mine to give\r\nbut is for those for whom it has been prepared.\"\r\nWhen the ten heard this, they became indignant at James and John.\r\nJesus summoned them and said to them,\r\n\"You know that those who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles\r\nlord it over them,\r\nand their great ones make their authority over them felt.\r\nBut it shall not be so among you.\r\nRather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant;\r\nwhoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.\r\nFor the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve\r\nand to give his life as a ransom for many.\"\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
