\r\nJesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple area.\r\nHe looked around at everything and, since it was already late,\r\nwent out to Bethany with the Twelve.\r\n\r\nThe next day as they were leaving Bethany he was hungry.\r\nSeeing from a distance a fig tree in leaf,\r\nhe went over to see if he could find anything on it.\r\nWhen he reached it he found nothing but leaves;\r\nit was not the time for figs.\r\nAnd he said to it in reply, \u201cMay no one ever eat of your fruit again!\u201d\r\nAnd his disciples heard it.\r\n\r\nThey came to Jerusalem,\r\nand on entering the temple area\r\nhe began to drive out those selling and buying there.\r\nHe overturned the tables of the money changers\r\nand the seats of those who were selling doves.\r\nHe did not permit anyone to carry anything through the temple area.\r\nThen he taught them saying, \u201cIs it not written:\r\n\r\nMy house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples?\r\nBut you have made it a den of thieves.\u201d\r\n\r\nThe chief priests and the scribes came to hear of it\r\nand were seeking a way to put him to death,\r\nyet they feared him\r\nbecause the whole crowd was astonished at his teaching.\r\nWhen evening came, they went out of the city.\r\n\r\nEarly in the morning, as they were walking along,\r\nthey saw the fig tree withered to its roots.\r\nPeter remembered and said to him, \u201cRabbi, look!\r\nThe fig tree that you cursed has withered.\u201d\r\nJesus said to them in reply, \u201cHave faith in God.\r\nAmen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain,\r\n\u2018Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,\u2019\r\nand does not doubt in his heart\r\nbut believes that what he says will happen,\r\nit shall be done for him.\r\nTherefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer,\r\nbelieve that you will receive it and it shall be yours.\r\nWhen you stand to pray,\r\nforgive anyone against whom you have a grievance,\r\nso that your heavenly Father may in turn\r\nforgive you your transgressions.\u201d\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
